Carabelle Origami Dragonfly Tag Distress Oxide Tutorial

Wow!  It seems like forever since I posted!  I had the great pleasure of traveling to spend the weekend with my amazing blog friend Sara Emily of Sara's Closet.  We had the most amazing time attending the Stamp Scrap Art Tour in Columbia, SC.  We met up with my local friends at the show and did a fun little tag swap.  I forgot to take pics of all of my tags together, but here is the one leftover.

After creating the backgrounds for THIS post on black cardstock, I was curious to experiment with the same technique on a different dark color.  I had a huge stack of this burgundy card and followed the same process.  I used Fired Brick, Walnut Stain and Vintage Photo Distress Oxides.  This time I overstamped the backgrounds with Tim's Lattice & Flourish stamp set (the flourish) in Cranberry Adirondack ink.

Click on the graphic for more details on the process.

Next, I embossed the Origami Dragonfly by Carabelle Studio in black on watercolor card and colored him with Distress Inks (Seedless Preserves, Tattered Rose & Chipped Sapphire).

I cut slits in the tag and curled each section outward.

I layered this over a blag tag with some DecoArt crackle paste scraped onto it and the same DOX daubed over the cracks.  I layered the dragonfly with foam tape over a string bundle.

As a final touch, I added a die cut sentiment from the Tim Holtz Handwritten Love set cut from Metallic Kraft Core and wrapped some string around the base of the tag.

Here we are (I look so silly!) from left to right Carol, Madelyn, Me, Sara Emily and Bonnie.  It was really a great weekend and we are all excited about next year already.  :)  And below is the amazing view from the lake house.  I put pics of the show on my Instagram page if you're curious.  Thanks for looking and have a great, creative week!

I'm sharing my tag with:

It's so funny to see these extra photos on your blog! Now I know why I don't have my photo taken very often! Ha! Ha! The camera adds 10#'s; oh, no wait! That really IS 10#'s!!Tee Hee!

I love this tag!!! The colors are simply stunning - I must try this technique, though it could never turn out as beautiful as yours. Love your dragonfly - really really love the simplicity of this tag and your beautiful "stitching"! Making the cuts and opening up your tag to another layer really adds to this (not that it needed it) - I've seen that done before and love it, but I haven't tried it yet. Even better is that you made it a resting place for your dragonfly - just stunning!! Hugs!!!
