Bees Knees Mixed Media and Handmade Flowers

card 1
PLAY!!!  That is exactly what I did last night and it felt so so good!  Remember, I am celebrating Graciellie Design's August digital stamp release with a chance to win one of Graciellie's digital stamp sets AND a set of printable papers on THIS post.  I also have another bee themed project coming atcha on the 15h with another giveaway.  But...  I wasn't done playing with these images just yet.  This handmade sunflower was in my reject/leftover pile because I got carried away when inking the center.  I didn't want it to be a focal point in a design.  So I was pondering the Mojo Monday sketch, then I saw the lovely Julie's post for AVJ and a light went off.  So I flipped the sketch and cut my sunflower in half and tucked each half away in the wonky layers.  That gave me the space I needed to showcase the bee!  JOY!  (The details on making the flower are on my giveaway post.)

card 2
I embossed the gorgeous IndigoBlu honeycomb background stamp with walnut stain Distress embossing powder.  Same for the scrolly dies by Penny Black.

card 3
And while having fun with my new IndigoBlu products, I couldn't help but add some gilding with Megaflake in Chocolate Box.  I was going for an extreme juxtaposition of glam and grunge.

card 4
How ever did I live without these stamps?  That honeycomb!  That bee!  That sunflower!  <3

card 4
I mounted her over a pretty acetate die as note to Gracie's tutorial on foiling digital stamps.  So cool!  Check that out HERE.  Trust me when I say a laminating machine is high on my wish list!!!  The possibilities are endless!  I hope you've enjoyed seeing the Bee Kind stamp set in action and will join me on the 15th for my final project.  :)

Wow, this looks so 3D that it pops out of the screen! I guess one advantage of using digital stamps is that you make them any size you want!

Brilliant card, Autumn! Loving that grungy background, and you have showcased the bee perfectly! Great to see you use the sunflowers; they look like the real thing! Glad to have a few minutes to get a taste of what you've been up to! Looks like you've been busy in the craft room! I do hope to get caught up at some point, but again, will not be happening today! Uggh! Big hugs to you, sweetie!

Bees are right up there with butterflies and dragonflies (and seahorses - lol) but this one is one of the most beautiful I have seen, it is so chunky and gorgeous! That was such a great idea to cut the sunflower in half, it looks so striking and that honeycomb background is superb. Totally beautiful! Hugs, Anne xx

This is so awesome, Autumn! Love how you've tucked those flowers in the layers and have that huge bee as your focal point - he (or she) is amazing, especially on that stamped acetate! I love your use of the gilding flakes on this project - can't wait to see the next one :-)
